TransRockies Day One Stage Race
Rode the route for the TransRockies Day One Stage Race yesterday. The 31.4 km route of mostly Fernie single-track involved 1077 meters of climbing and took me 3 hours, 40 minutes at a tourist pace. I guess the top racers will be about 2 hours to complete this race.
The route starts in downtown Fernie and rides behind the Aquatic Centre, across Coal Creek to Blackstone Barn and along the power line double track to Beer Run. From there it is all single-track climbing up Roots, HyperVentilation, down Hyper Extension, up Splitting Bears, Split Decision and Eric?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s. Out Kids Stuff and across Ridgemont Road to descend Eco Terrorist, up Sidewinder and Broken Derailleur, across on R Trail, down Little Chainring, up to lower Kush (on a new connector) and down TR1 (new trail) to the exit of Little Chainring onto Ridgemont Road again.
The last hour involves riding down Ridgemont Road for 4 km and riding back 9 km along Coal Discovery Trail and Old Stumpy to the finish. Confused yet? The newer single-track after R-Trail is flagged with black/red tape so you should be able to follow the route. The rest of the route will be flagged a few days before the event and the flagging removed soon after.
