The NEW Gorby Creek Bridge on Sherwoody
When George gets excited about a new bridge he’s working on I know it’s going to be an awesome structure. On Saturday we installed George’s latest bridge and it is the best bridge to date! The materials and craftmanship will last for another 25 years and the bridge greatly improved the crossing!
The old Gorby Creek bridge had served 10 years of service and for the last few years laid collapsed in the creek. A new bridge was necessary and this summers trail improvements on Sherwoody inspired the action. The 27 foot beams each weigh over 500 lbs and had to be lowered from a Bell 206 Long Ranger into their final resting place. The planking is rough-cut 2″ cedar and decking is fabricated honey-comb plastic. SMS Equipment provided the materials, The Fernie Trails and Ski Touring Club provided the labour, and the Fernie Trails Alliance provided the cedar decking.
