2024 Summer Cabin Improvements
Every spring, the Fernie Trails and Ski Touring Club reviews the cabins and plans improvements for the summer and fall.
These upgrades go above and beyond the annual cleaning and restocking of supplies, such as firewood, propane, and other essentials. Preparing the firewood involves bucking and splitting, followed by several helicopter flights to each cabin for storage in the wood sheds. All three cabins were stocked with high-quality larch wood.
Improvements began at Thunder Meadows, including a new entrance, the completion of last year’s wood shed with the addition of a new door, new benches, new bunks in the loft area, and a fresh coat of stain on the exterior cedar. Thunder Meadows is looking great for another epic ski season!
Moving on, we gave some attention to Harvey Hut. The broken window was replaced, and a general cleanup was done. Harvey caters primarily to our sled-skiing members and is a day-use-only facility. In contrast, Thunder Meadows and Tunnel Creek support both overnight and day use; you can view the day use policy here.
Tunnel Creek has been the focus of improvements over the past three seasons, and this year it received a new toilet and a fresh coat of interior paint.
All this work and dedication are entirely volunteer-driven, with each volunteer purchasing memberships and paying for their bookings. As a perk, volunteers receive early access to limited bookings. The commitment and effort far outweigh this perk—get involved!
We’re excited for another fantastic season of cabin skiing! Read about how to book the cabins here.
