Ski Touring as good as it gets in December
Fernie has enjoyed a historic December for ski touring with a healthy snowpack and great temperatures. The snowpack has been stable with Moderate and Low avalanche hazard ratings by the CAC. The 166 cm snowfall in 7 days was light snow and the temperature has remained cold. Excellent powder, stable conditions and good coverage summarizes our December. Hopefully the remainder of the season will only get better!!
Following are a few images from yesterdays tour up Orca Bowl to the base of Orca Rock. There was a bit of wind slab above 5600ft and we experienced no avalanche activity. The two Lizard Creek crossings were the challenge of the day!
Happy New Year!
