January 15 Booking Release Opens for Fernie’s Backcountry Cabins

The January 15 booking period for Fernie’s backcountry cabins opens Thursday, January 15 at 6:00am MST, releasing February 1 to April 30 overnight inventory for Thunder Meadows Cabin and Tunnel Creek Cabin.

This is the second and final winter release for the 2025–26 season and typically fills quickly.

What’s Being Released on January 15

Thunder Meadows (overnight, whole-cabin only)
Dates: Feb 1 – Apr 30
Max stay: up to 3 nights
Capacity: 8 people, $150/night plus admin fee
Notes: Area closes in spring for goat lambing

Tunnel Creek (overnight, whole-cabin only)
Dates: Feb 1 – Apr 30
Max stay: up to 3 nights
Capacity: 6 people, $150/night plus admin fee
Notes: Winter use only due to wildlife values

Harvey Pass remains day-use only and is not bookable for overnight stays.

• No membership required to book

A $5 annual membership is encouraged and helps support cabin maintenance, backcountry access advocacy across the Elk Valley, and keeps members informed about volunteer opportunities and cabin updates. Purchase here.

Pro tips: Close your basket immediately when you select your date or risk loosing. Buying a membership in advance can speed things up during the 6:00am release rush.

Day Use
• Thunder Meadows & Tunnel Creek: 10:00am–3:00pm
• Day users are welcome, buy a membership. Non-members are also asked to donate online.

Limits & Fair Use
• Non-commercial use only (no guiding, courses, or tours)
• One visit per cabin per release period per booker
• Split winter releases (November and January) are intended to spread access fairly
• Waivers & Guest Information (Required)

All guests must complete the online waiver. The booking holder is responsible for ensuring every guest submits one. This information is required for:
• Club insurance liability
• Fernie Search and Rescue contact purposes
• Island Lake Lodge avalanche control notifications

Cancellations & Resales
• Private resales are not permitted due to the online waiver and contact requirements.

If you can’t use your booking:
• Email directors@fernietrails.com to cancel and return the dates to inventory
• Share the live availability link so others can see it
• If the Club resells the dates, you’ll receive a refund minus the $10 admin fee
• Email again once it resells to trigger your PayPal refund

Booking opens January 15 at 6:00am MST. Log in early, have your dates in mind, and good luck securing your nights.
