Tunnel Creek Cabin Fall Maintenance Update
Nine dedicated volunteers made the trek up to the Tunnel Creek Cabin this week for a full day of fall maintenance and cleanup. The crew completed a deep clean of the hut, installed a new chimney, added snow stops to the roof, and took care of extensive brush and weed trimming around the cabin, outhouse, and heli pad.
One of the biggest changes was the removal of the infamous “Pee Tree.” The tree had developed significant rot and was safely taken down before it could pose any damage to the cabin. The Pee Tree sign has been reinstalled nearby and will be raised higher once the snowpack builds this winter.
With a few surrounding trees now cleared, the cabin’s solar panel will receive much more light, improving power efficiency. Visitors are encouraged to periodically shovel the snow off the roof around the chimney during winter visits to help maintain proper airflow and reduce snow load.
A huge thank-you goes out to all the volunteers who contributed their time and effort to keeping the Tunnel Creek Cabin in great condition for another season of backcountry use!
